SPACE
The Student Poster and Animation Competition and Exhibition (SPACE) is now in
its third year as a SIGGRAPH Education Committee event. Participation in this
competition and exhibition continues to grow as well as the quality of the
entries. SPACE provides an excellent opportunity for students working with
computers to exhibit their creative work. It is open to all students currently
attending elementary or secondary schools, colleges or universities. We
encourage teachers to have their students enter SPACE either through class
projects or individual interest.
The theme for SPACE was "Technological Tides" in the spirit of this year's
conference theme of "exploring the next wave of digital technology." The
poster jury selected very creative artworks from the record number of
submissions. The animation jury reviewed more submissions than ever before
and the selections resulted in an outstanding show.
For the past five years, after its initial exhibition at the SIGGRAPH
conference, SPACE has traveled nationally for one year to many sites; it will
travel again this year. For the first time last year, SPACE was also exhibited
in Japan as part of the Lifelong Learning Festivals - Manabi Pia Fukuoka
sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Computer Graphic Arts Society. We
are excited to report that SPACE also has been invited to Japan in November for
exhibition at their conference.
During the next year, the animations may be seen at the Information Age
exhibition in the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. Additionally,
SPACE - may be viewed on the SIGGRAPH Education Committee website at
http://www.education.siggraph.org
